Satabdi Basu, PhD, is the Principal Investigator of ASSIST. She is a Principal CS Education Researcher at SRI’s Center for Education Research and Innovation. Dr. Basu’s research in computer science education spans the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula, learning environments, assessments, and teacher professional development that foster computational competencies for K-12 students and teachers. Dr. Basu leads all the design and development work of the ASSIST teacher resources and teacher PD series, as well as the research and dissemination activities.
Carol Tate, Senior Education Researcher
Carol Tate, PhD, is a Senior Education Researcher at SRI specializing in design, research, and evaluation projects with a focus on improving teaching quality in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Dr. Tate’s primary research interest relates to how curriculum design and contextual factors interact to affect teaching quality and student learning. On the ASSIST project, she contributes to the development of instructionally supportive tools and to the professional development for participating teachers.
Hui Yang, STEM & CS Education Researcher
Hui Yang, PhD, is a STEM & CS Education Researcher at SRI specializing in learning sciences with a focus on STEM & CS education. Dr. Yang’s research explores how teachers learn to integrate technological and programming tools with content and pedagogy to support student learning, and how student-centered learning environments support students’ collaborations in STEM & CS learning. On the ASSIST project, Dr. Yang focuses on developing formative assessment items, facilitating professional development for middle school CS teachers, and analyzing student and teacher data to gather insights into the efficacy of the developed instructional resources.
